Avocados have become an increasingly popular food in recent years, with people blending the creamy fruit in their smoothies or slicing it to layer on top of toast.

This green fruit has become a true staple in kitchens around the world -- and for good reason. Avocados deliver a variety of health benefits + are a versatile ingredient when cooking.

I use the fatty fruit in soups, dips + even chocolate truffles. Depending on how you bake with it, avocados can be an excellent fat substitute that won't make your desserts taste like an avocado. I will be sharing some delicious desserts made with avocado soon!

They are chock-full of nutrients + can be a beneficial part of a balanced diet. These are four ways avocados are good for your health:

1) POTASSIUM - They have more potassium than a banana. The mineral helps regulate nerve function + move nutrients into cells while taking away waste, according to the US National Library of Medicine. Potassium also works to combat high blood pressure, according to the American Heart Association. High levels of sodium can increase blood pressure, the CDC said + potassium allows more sodium to leave the body through our urine. This in turn lowers our blood pressure, the American Heart Association said.

2) MONOUNSATURATED FATS - It's an unsaturated fat that works to lower LDL cholesterol without affecting the good HDL cholesterol. When you have too much LDL cholesterol, it hardens along the edges of your arteries + narrows them, according to the Mayo Clinic. This reduces blood flow through the arteries, which can cause blood clots + other medical complications.

3) FOLATE - Folate is a B vitamin that is important for proper brain function + healthy pregnancies. The National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements recommends women of childbearing age have 400 micrograms of folate per day. Pregnant women should increase their intake to 600 micrograms per day, according to the agency. Folate can help prevent birth defects, specifically those that affect a baby's brain + spine, during the early weeks of pregnancy, according to the CDC. Around half of pregnancies in the United States are unplanned, the article said, which is why it's important for all women of childbearing age to have enough folate as part of their regular diet.

4) FIBER - Foods with more fiber tend to keep you satiated longer than low-fiber foods do, the Mayo Clinic said. This makes avocados a great choice for people who are watching their weight, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Back in 2019, the United Nations found that the fashion industry was responsible for 8-10% of the worlds carbon emissions. To put it in context, that’s more than all international flights & maritime shipping combined.

To make a single pair of jeans requires 7,500 liters of water.
The fashion industry generates around 20% of the worlds wastewater & releases half a million tons of synthetic microfibers into the ocean annually.

The world’s driest desert has become a dumping ground for global fast fashion & its mountains of discarded clothes are growing even bigger.

The photos above show mass piles of clothing in Chile’s Atacama desert, which is increasingly suffering from pollution created by the fashion industry. (Source: Vice World News)

If we are to continue living on this planet, we have no choice but to face these upsetting truths and do something about it NOW. Do you feel helpless, overwhelmed and sad learning about the effects of fast fashion?

Do you want to actually do your part and do something about it? Well, you can. That's why I'd like to introduce you to the brand, FOR DAYS. I'm obsessed with their comfy basics, accessories and pajamas!

2022 is here and all I can think about is how it marks six full years of being an entrepreneur. Six full years of successes, setbacks, great decisions, mistakes and continuous learning and growth. I have to remind myself at times that where I am today is so far beyond what I was six years ago.

I love the new year, it feels like a fresh start with endless possibilities. Even though New Year’s resolutions can be cliché, they really do help motivate me to set new goals. I have gathered some great tips on how to set healthy habits that I want to share:
Start small: Don’t set yourself up for failure by setting a goal you are not prepared for. For example, might not be a great goal to run a marathon, if you never go on runs. Start with a one mile run every day of the week and increase your endurance from there.

Be precise: Don’t simply just say I’ll start eating healthier. Think about how. Like, I will cook at home Monday-Friday instead of ordering take-out. Or, I will prepare all my lunches from home instead of eating out. Or I will stay away from sugar Mon-Friday. With precision and consistency goals become tangible.

Stay Consistent: They say it takes at least 30 days for something to become a habit, so don’t drop the ball after a couple of weeks. The longer you practice these healthy habits they will become a routine!

This holiday season was quiet & low key. It’s been so nice to recharge, rest & reset. I feel a lot more energized & excited for 2022!

I have so many thoughts & plans for what’s to come in 2022, including my yet to be named Podcast! If you have any suggestions on names, drop them below!

One Thing I’ll Leave Behind In 2021: Wasted Energy. It’s okay to only focus on the people and tasks that give energy and life back to you and that which makes you happy.

On Thing I'll Continue To Do In 2022 and Beyond: Feel the sun on my face and spend more time outside. It sounds so basic, but for me, I've been a literal hermit. I think a major reason why my sleep hygiene is so out of whack is that I'm not getting enough natural sunlight & therefor my circadian rhythm is off. One of the most powerful ways to de-stress is to spend time outdoors. Holiday eating, drinking, and socializing can be hard on your overall well-being, so give yourself a break with the restorative effects of nature.

I’m so thankful for each & every one of you reading this who have supported me & follow along! I can’t wait to see what 2022 brings & how much more growth & opportunity is in the new year!

How are you feeling?

What are some things that you are going to leave behind in 2021

& what are you looking to do for yourself in the new year (and beyond)?
